Katerina ZY Luo 駱
Luo is a Chinese-born Guzheng performer and scholar whose work lies at the intersection of traditional Chinese music, cross-cultural dialogue, and contemporary aesthetics. Rooted in classical Guzheng performance and expanded through academic research, her music expresses not only sound, but a philosophy of poetic connection across time and cultures.
Born in Hefei, China, she began her Guzheng studies at the age of four. She started her undergraduate education at Anhui University in 2015. In 2018, she moved to Germany to continue her studies at Leipzig University, where she began exploring intercultural music practice and contemporary musical thought in a European context.Currently, Luo is pursuing Ph.D at the University of Oxford, where her research focuses on cultural Aesthetics of East Asia.
As a performer, Luo is active across Europe, known for her emotive style and elegant interpretations of both classical repertoire and contemporary works. She played in over 20 cites all over the world and collaborated with many international musicians, with performances that blend Guzheng with piano,harp ,Cello, electronic soundscapes, and other art forms.
Fluent in Chinese, English and German, she brings music to life with insightful narrative, often engaging audiences in discussions about history, aesthetics, and meaning through sound. Whether on stage or in academic forums, she is dedicated to fostering a living dialogue between tradition and innovation.
