Strings meet Strings

Guzheng with different classical/folks String Instruments

Strings Meet Strings is a concert series that explores the dynamic interplay between the guzheng—a traditional Chinese zither—and Western string instruments such as the violin, cello, and harp. Through carefully curated collaborations, the series invites audiences to experience a rich dialogue between different timbres, traditions, and artistic sensibilities.

Each performance is a musical conversation—an exploration of shared emotions, contrasting textures, and cultural resonance. Whether through reinterpretations of traditional melodies, new compositions, or improvisatory exchanges, this series celebrates the common language of strings across time and geography.

So far, the guzheng has engaged in vivid dialogue with instruments including the violin, cello, and harp, with more voices to come. Together, they form a tapestry of sound that transcends borders and speaks to the universal spirit of music.

With Mr.Sebastian Bach to China

Guzheng & Cello

What if Bach had traveled eastward—beyond the courts of Europe, across vast landscapes, and into the heart of China?

With Bach to China is an imaginative musical journey told through the intimate voices of two instruments: the Chinese guzheng and the Western cello. This duo concert reimagines an encounter that never happened—Bach’s mythical voyage from Leipzig to ancient China—where each stop along the way reveals new musical colors, textures, and stories.

As the cello carries the soul of Baroque Europe—its harmonic richness, lyrical phrasing, and expressive depth—the guzheng responds with shimmering tones, pentatonic poetry, and echoes of distant mountains and rivers. Together, they weave a sonic narrative: not merely a fusion, but a conversation across time and culture.

With Bach to China is both a concert and a story: a poetic reimagining of how music transcends borders, how strings from different worlds can speak to each other, and how, in sound, East and West might meet—not in opposition, but in harmony.

The whole concert  includes 2 Parts and total 10 pieces  from Chinese  music and works from Johnhan Sebastian Bach,   60 min music + 15 min pause.
